TanboHiro: Ch 1 - Ep 24

Chapter 1

Episode 24: Western-style dinner

"Shall we start preparing dinner?"

"I'll help you as well."

After returning home from the supermarket and resting, I decided to make dinner.

Seram followed me as I walked from the living room to the kitchen.

Despite her lack of experience in cooking, the female knight always helps with meal preparation.

"Wash the tomatoes first."

"Okay."

As I handed over the tomatoes I picked this morning, Seram carefully washed them in the sink.

Meanwhile, I retrieved the necessary ingredients for cooking from the refrigerator and prepared cooking utensils such as frying pans.

"I'm done washing."

"Then, we'll remove the stems. Cut them roughly like this."

Scoop out the stem of the tomato with the tip of a knife and cut it in half.

Then, with the cut end facing down, cut it lengthwise and crosswise into pieces about 2 cm wide.

After the demonstration, Seram carefully started chopping the tomatoes into chunks.

"Even though you're so skilled with swords, you're so clumsy with knives."

It's a shame to see Seram struggle with cutting tomatoes using a knife, especially considering her impressive skills with a sword. The Seram I see now is undoubtedly the real Seram.

"Ugh, I've never really used a knife before. If I had a dagger, I might be more skilled with it..."

"I don't have such a dangerous thing in my house."

How will you excuse yourself when someone finds out?

Even though you already have a sword at your waist, let's not add any more dangerous items.

I entrust the tomato preparation to Seram while I focus on slicing the garlic into thin pieces and shredding and mincing the onion.

As I work on these ingredients, Seram successfully cuts the tomatoes into chunks. I place them in a heatproof container and cook them in the microwave for 5 minutes.

"Then, please mash these."

"Do you want me to mash the tomatoes you've grown with great care?"

I hand her the masher, and Seram looks shocked.

It's nice that she has an attachment to the vegetables she harvested, but let's not develop any strange affection for them.

"It's to enhance the flavor of the dish."

"Oh, I'm sorry. Sorry, tomatoes. ......"

After I explain it clearly, Seram mashes the tomatoes with a slightly sad expression.

Meanwhile, I cut the chicken thighs into bite-size pieces and season them with salt and pepper.

Add the chopped garlic and onion to the hot skillet and sauté them.

Transfer the sautéed garlic and onion to a separate plate. In the same skillet, cook the chicken thighs until they are browned.

Once both sides of the chicken thighs are browned, transfer them to a pot and add the mashed tomatoes and onion. Then, pour in water, ketchup, consommé cubes, honey, and white wine.

"Now, we just need to let it simmer slowly over low heat, and the chicken tomato stew with tomatoes will be ready."

"The aroma of the tomatoes and chicken is already making it smell delicious!"

Seram seems eager, but it will still take some time before it's ready.

"Next, we'll make the tomato falci."

"What's falci?"

"It's stuffed tomatoes."

"Oh!"

Since I finished the first dish quickly, I started to make tomato falci.

"Remove the stem of the tomato and cut off a small portion from the bottom. Cut about 1 cm from the top of the stem side and scoop out the inside using a spoon."

As I demonstrate, Seram follows along and creates a tomato bowl.

She seems quite skilled at tasks that don't involve complicated knife work.

Once the tomato bowl is prepared, I take a bowl of flour and add the chopped tomato insides and stems, along with ground beef, sautéed onions, salt, and pepper.

"Okay, now use your hands to mix it."

"With my hands? Is that alright?"

"It's fine. Just go ahead."

Seram hesitates, unsure about the unfamiliar feeling, but she plunges her hand into the bowl and mixes the meatballs.

The mixture feels cold and sticky.

Although Seram seems a little intimidated by the sensation, she continues to mix the meat until it becomes sticky.

Once the meat mixture is ready, I line a baking tray with cooking sheets and place the tomato bowls and their covers on the sheets.

"Put about 1/4 of the meat mixture in each tomato bowl."

"Okay."

After guiding Seram to fill the tomato bowls with the meat mixture using a spoon, I place them in the oven to cook.

While the chicken tomato stew continues to simmer, I remove the tomato falci from the oven after 15 minutes.

"Is it done?"

"Not quite yet. I'm going to add cheese on top and heat them up."

"We're adding cheese now? Won't it taste really delicious?"

While Seram looks on in amazement, I sprinkle cheese on top of the cooked meat in the tomato bowls and return them to the oven to bake for a while.

While waiting for the falci to finish cooking, I prepare stir-fried eggs with tomatoes and other marinades. At the same time, Seram continues to stir the chicken tomato stew.

As I work on the side dishes to pass the time, I suddenly hear a dinging sound from the oven.

When I open the oven, I'm greeted by the sizzling tomato falci.

A rich, cheesy aroma permeates the kitchen, enticing our appetites.

Simultaneously, the chicken tomato stew has thickened and simmered to perfection.

Placing each side dish on a plate, Seram and I quickly gather around the dining table.

The table is adorned with an array of tomato dishes: chicken tomato stew, tomato falci, stir-fried eggs with tomatoes, marinated tomatoes, and more.

"... Looking at them now, we've managed to make quite a feast."

"I had too much free time, so I got carried away and made too much. Can we finish them all?"

"Don't worry! Even if Jin-dono can't eat them, I'll eat them all!"

The hungry knight looked at the dishes on the table and snorted.

We had been busy harvesting and delivering all day, so we only had a light lunch.

That's why she's hungrier than usual.

I feel the same way, though. Perhaps that's why my appetite got out of control, and I cooked too much.

"Today, we have bread as the main dish instead of rice."

"Wow! It smells amazing!"

With her hands clasped together, Seram eagerly reaches out for the bread.

She tears apart the warm bread with her hands, and her eyes widen at how soft it is. Slowly, she puts a piece in her mouth.

"Do you like it? Is the bread in this world as good as the bread in the other world?"

"The bread is incredibly fluffy! I've never tasted such a softness and rich flavor of wheat before! Even the royal families and nobles wouldn't have experienced bread like this."

Seram expresses her excitement, clearly pleased with the taste.

Sorry, but this bread can be obtained anywhere, including supermarkets and convenience stores.

Should I take her to a more reputable bakery?

She seems to be satisfied with the ordinary bread now, so maybe some other time.

"Enough with the bread. Let's try the chicken tomato stew."

After eating the bread for a while, Seram took a spoonful of the chicken tomato stew and brought it to her mouth.

"Delicious!" Seram exclaims with delight. "The sweetness and tanginess of the tomatoes infuse into the chicken and onions, enhancing the flavors."

"Yes, the tomato really brings out the richness."

Thanks to the tomatoes, the chicken thighs have become tender and juicy. Each bite releases a burst of tomato flavor combined with succulent meat juices. The onions, on the other hand, have softened and turned sweet while retaining their delightful crunch.

It also pairs well with the butter rolls.

Given that the menu has a strong Western influence this time, it wouldn't go well with rice. Choosing bread as the main dish was a good decision.

While I prefer rice as the main dish, there are times when having bread as the main dish isn't so bad.

After savoring the flavors of the chicken tomato stew, I move on to try the tomato falci.

As I slice it in half with a knife, the juices from the meat and tomatoes gush out all at once.

I take a bite of the bite-sized tomato pieces and savor the flavors.

The tomatoes, cooked in the oven, have intensified in flavor, enhancing their natural taste.

The combination of tomatoes, meat, and onion is delicious, and adding rich cheese amplifies the entire flavor.

No one would question its deliciousness.

Seram and I fall silent as we indulge in the dish, fully absorbed in its taste.

After enjoying the marinated tomatoes to refresh my palate, it's time to indulge in the stir-fried eggs. They offer a consistently delicious taste and provide a comforting warmth.

As I continue eating in this manner, my stomach fills up rapidly.

However, Seram continues to eat without any signs of losing her appetite.

I can't help but wonder where all the food goes in her slender body.

I watch her eat, pondering over this intriguing mystery.
